Success Story: Contractors

Building the Future

The client is a construction company that currently does restoration to storm damaged and old buildings and general remodeling. The focus of the company is to target large projects that are managed by government agencies of private owners. This firm has been in business three years.

The client learned about the SBDC from our quarterly brochure that offers 10 free hours of counseling. He came in seeking information about starting and running the business--everything from initial start-up to financing, marketing, hiring employees, and doing the company books. He had managed a much larger firm of the same nature, but needed confidence in running his own. He has seen several different counselors at the SBDC (depending on the particular problem/need), attended the Greenhouse Program, and is now in the third year of the Small Business Management Program. You could say his appetite for education has been whetted--he has recently enrolled in a degree program at the College.

This owner sees the outcome of his initial visit to the SBDC as an ongoing one: "To keep polishing our skills so that we continue to grow and stay profitable."
