Success Story: Operations

Are You Running Your Business...Or Is It Running You?

After being a "stay-at-home-mother" for twelve years, I opened Lazerquick in Newport in April of 1995. I have to say that looking back over the past years, I have learned more than I believed possible. The printing and digital service field is changing rapidly. Many of the people we deal with know so little about the ever-changing world of digital imaging. The education process in this business is never-ending. We try very hard to stay abreast of the newest technology and work to pass along that information to our customers. Being a franchise allows me the advantage of tapping into the experiences and expertise of a larger more complex knowledge source.

Lazerquick is dedicated to offering powerful printing, copying, and digital solutions at affordable prices. Whether you're creating a new business card, 500-page manual, turning artwork into greeting cards, or using one of our self-serve services, we offer one-stop convenience. In the advent of digital publishing, you don't even have to leave your office or home to bring us your printing or copying job - you can simply send it by modem.

When I began the Small Business Management Program, one of the first questions put to me was; "What do you want to gain from this program?" Without too much thought the answer came to me ... the fast pace and rapid changes in the industry combined with daily routines of a growing business, often left me feeling that the business was running me ... knowing it should be the other way around. I wanted to learn how to integrate the operation of a fast-paced successful business and the functions of my daily life without jeopardizing my family.

Ron Spisso has been amazingly supportive. His experience as a small business owner has enabled him to put his ideas into play. Now, as a business advisor he is able to pass on the invaluable information he learned from being in the trenches. He has helped by showing me new ways of managing my time, employees, and customers. I have learned a lot about my strengths and weaknesses from both the one-to-one meetings with Ron and the monthly classroom sessions. There is real comfort in knowing that a lot of the problems we face are common for small business owners. I've enjoyed working with Ron and participating in the BizCenter SBM Program.

Peggi Hollen owns and manages Lazerquick, a Newport business she began in 1995. She joined the Small Business Management Program last year and will graduate in June 1999. Ron Spisso is the coordinator of the SBM Program.
