Less than two years after participating in the first Veterans Small Business Management and Small Business Greenhouse courses, and “falling in love with the SBDC,” Rob Campbell has been named the new Director of the Clackamas Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

As a valuable resource for small businesses, Campbell thinks the SBDC is the best kept secret in the Metro area. And he wants that to change. The SBDC’s mission is to serve the Clackamas County area business community by “increasing business success through responsive education.”

As part of Clackamas Community College, the SBDC’s goal is to help businesses create joy and wealth by providing its clients with the training, education, individual counseling and resources they need to attain their business goals.

The SBDC creates added value for clients by giving them the opportunity to meet with our experienced business counselors to customize the curriculum for their own business needs. “I’ve worked with small businesses all my life,”

Campbell says. “My personal philosophy is you cannot be truly successful until you make the people around you even more successful.” As a Vietnam combat veteran, Campbell has a passion to support veterans who want to continue their education to start a new business and/or help an existing business thrive and grow.

Campbell notes, “If half of the 12,000 small businesses in Clackamas County could be successful enough to hire only one employee, imagine the benefit to the local economy!” Oregon has 19 SBDCs, and the Clackamas SBDC has some of the highest rated Small Business Management, Greenhouse (start-up), marketing, CCB (Construction Contractors Board) exam preparation, and Veterans courses in the state.
